ZaoWater Sketches

.

We begun working on our new Zao Water project. The idea is still tentative but the goal is set: market by not only their identity as 'water-givers' but also delve into their humanitarian side.

For this we thought it might be best to still use water and its life given force as the main element but to ask the viewer to examine what it can mean to others.

Here are some sketches:

We hope to move forward with this campaign with the addition of some source, which will include some amazing images of the great work these folks are doing over in Africa!

Be sure to check out their website and encourage them to push on.

So I haven't really been posting any work lately... I've been a bit lazy, and for that I apologize. Here's a little treat. A computer illustration:

color update

Those of you who read the last post saw an uncolored character from a new project I'm working on. Below you can see him colored in, I'm pleased with where he ended up.

Wow

This was so much fun... I've got so much to do, and learn and get done, but still...
This is amazing, just the thought of being able to serve God doing stuff like this; It rocks my world

Finishing the torso

So I got a little sidetracked from homework and decided to finish this guys bottom half up. I'm trying really hard to find that balance between good work and productive work, and good anatomy and fun cartoon anatomy, I think the only thing I have to let go of is a lot of the rules.

Little by little its getting aster and better so I can't say that I'm not pleased with where I am at.

I am also attaching a little image of previous characters that have been tweaked a little bit. As always I encourage you (if anyone actually reads this) to leave any criticism by way of comments

Roman Soldier

After a nice weekend of sketching and painting backgrounds and a Looooong Monday of school work and of real work, today I was able to get back to some gospel charachters.
This is what I worked on at lunch today:

new background painting

Today's bounty:
a nice base background for the God's Creatures pilot. This is where most of the pilot will take place, of course with all of the things that also be included in a playroom of two traveling dinos.. But its a nice start none the less.

Background art

working on some background art tonight. This started initially as a desert scene in australia, for the god's creatures pilot. It may turn itself up in the gospel as well.

Lunch break sketches

>

Today is a great day.

Plus I get a nice lunch break to work on a few things of my own...
I have been putting off design the character of Mary, but I did want to start problem solving for a few scenes I have in my head. Here is a very basic character map, for a scene that will rapidly build her pregnancy...

There are a few things I like about this, I like the progression and I like her arm position, which I will keep in the final. I am not a fan of the neck area or the already noticeably weird perspective of a forward facing head with a 3/4 body, Its something I am having trouble with right now...

More bible characters...

I am getting ready to do some spot animation for this bible project I have been working on. A few more characters have been completed and I think I have to go in and redo some of my line work on a few others so there is continuity through the whole animation. I will be developing more characters tonight and tomorrow and then painting backgrounds this weekend. I am hoping to have a 10-12 second teaser ready to post in the middle of next week at which point I will reveal the project as a whole. Exciting stuff!

here you can see one of the pharisies. I think I will duplicate these with very small variations to mimic a kind of matrix like feel in one of the 'showdowns' (you see where this is going yet?)

And here is a little baby jesus... He still needs some work but I like how he's coming along. I also like that there will be little by means of animating this little guy.

Speaking of animating.. drawing these characters, from a design stand point, is the most fun, but, the joy of bringing them to life through animation is so amazing. I could easily see myself creating a little world of cartoons and slipping of the deep end like a bad episode of the twilight zone.. scary thought... Ha, can't wait to share more

well... it's happened...

Looks like McCain, after having run one of the worst campaigns ever.. and having to follow one of these worst presidents ever was unable to do this impossible. I' excited our country finally has a black president, well, half black, but I'm pretty bummed Obama is the next president.

I wouldn't be an artist unless i expressed this somehow so.. here's a rough illustration.. not sure yet if I will do anything with it.. we'll see. I'm scared for our country

John the Baptist

It is such a pleasure to take a break from 'work' and be able to set some time into something that I love. Tonight I had limited time but I was able to start to finish up something, I think, very special. Without giving away too much just yet, I can tell you I am working on something biblical right now.
here is the first character that is developed.

I say developed but I use that very loosely, this is the only pose done so far.. no arm movements or mouth poses, no side view, no walk cycles.. nothing.. but I think its a great start considering where I was in flash a week ago. I can't wait to put more time into this.. I hope to be finished with this by Christmas, or shortly there after

Side note:
worked a little bit on my website today, I really have to go through my work samples and figure out what will go on there.

On another side note:
I was able to order my Wacom Cintiq this weekend, the package will be arriving on Thursday, and while I wrestled with the cost of this piece of technology, I was over-all able to settle happily with it, knowing it will save me much time and it was a school expense. I am so excited to get it! I can't wait to paint some backgrounds

Back in business!

Power came back on today. Thank G-D! As painful as it was at times, it was a nice reminder of how good I really do have it. It was als nice to put some pencil to paper and work on stand for a night. Tonight I start messing around with him in flash.
I'm happy where he finished for this quick try (only about 5 minutes) I haven't quite found his proportions yet, but I'm getting closer... And it was nice to see him in color, although, the color of those pants is allllll wrong. I'm going to work on him for probably another 4-5 days and really get him perfect as well as a walk cycle and all of his mouth movements... With Stan I learned how to apply a nice aesthetic like the lack of eye, with my laziness (no eyes to animate!) I hope he goes well well with my dinos... They should be kind to him, hopefully he doesn't provoke too much.
